STONY CORALS

I have been photographing and collecting stony corals for some 43 years and although I do not consider my self an expert in them, I have managed to accumulate a large number of species and locality variations.
I have been on a number of scientific expeditions just for the purpose of establishing a visual identification guide to stony corals when cross - referenced with scientifically collected specimens.

The identified species and images as uploaded to the IMAGE BANK have all been identified by the coral taxonomists authorities and 600 images were actually used as references for the stony corals bible..
"CORALS OF THE WORLD" Vol. 1,2 and 3 by JEN ( Charlie) Veron.
Australian Institute of Marine Science & CCR Queensland, 2000.

The Staghorn Corals ( Acroporidae) have all been identified by Professor Carden Wallace of the Museum of Tropical Queensland, the world authority on this family.

Although it is not possible to identify all species of stony corals by imagery alone, ( a specimen is still required in many cases) we have come a long way since I began my solitary quest at photographically recording them underwater, in 1969.

I am appreciative of the many years of collaboration with these experts in their fields and its good to know that my contributions have advanced not only the scientific community,
but the diving public across the Asia/Indo - Pacific region.
